The Power of Visual Imagery is a program for teachers, tutors, or even parents to help children who do not automatically comprehend or understand information they have read.  It is able to be used alone, with all the necessary text and stories included, or with general instructions for other text materials.  The Power of Visual Imagery uses instruction in complex interactive visual imagery, teaching students how to visually image and also how to provide a verbal description of the on-going images.   All lessons are included for use with large groups, small groups, or individually.

The book initially involves having the students practice visualization to a listening prompt after modeling of visual imagery.  Next the students are instructed to read a sentence, visually image the sentence, and then describe the image.   Students’ images are expected to evolve with each new sentence.   This phase is practiced intensely with teacher/tutor feedback throughout each passage.  The dialogue between the teacher and student continues throughout the program.

The Power of Visual Imagery is a research-based intervention which is useful for determining “response to instruction” or RTI for both traditional learners and those with more specific learning needs.   To order the Power of Visual Imagery- A Reading Comprehension Program for Students with Reading Difficulties, visit Peytral Publications.
